The right outfit can make the difference between good beach photos and stunning ones. After photographing hundreds of sessions at sunset, here’s exactly what works for a beach photoshoot.
The Golden Rules
1. Choose earth tones and soft neutrals
Whites, creams, beige, soft blush, dusty rose, sage green, light blue, tan, and warm browns photograph beautifully at sunset. These complement the golden light rather than competing with it.
2. Avoid these colors
Neon anything. Bright red (reflects onto skin). Heavy black (absorbs warm light). Busy patterns, large logos, graphic tees — they date photos and distract.
3. Coordinate, don’t match
Couples should be in the same color family but not identical. Think complementary palette, not uniform.
4. Flowing fabrics are magic
Aruba has a constant trade wind. Maxi dresses, loose linen shirts, flowing skirts — anything that catches the breeze creates beautiful movement.
By Session Type
Couples
Her: Flowing maxi dress, light jewelry, hair down. Him: Linen pants with button-down or henley. Rolled sleeves. No socks.
Families
Pick 2-3 colors from the same palette. Kids in comfortable clothes they can move in. Bare feet for everyone.
Solo
Make a statement. Bold flowing dress, jumpsuit with cover-up, or sharp blazer with linen pants for editorial.
Accessories
Barefoot is almost always best. Minimal delicate jewelry. Sunglasses for between shots only. Hair loose and natural — the wind styles it for you.
Outfit Changes
The 1-hour session gives time for one change. Start formal, switch to relaxed. There is no dedicated private rooms for change.
