You’ve found the ring. You’ve picked the island. Now you need someone hiding behind a fofoti tree with a camera, ready to capture the exact second she says yes. As a proposal photographer in Aruba, I’ve helped dozens of partners plan the perfect surprise — and I’ve never had one go wrong.
Step 1: Pick the Perfect Spot
Eagle Beach offers multiple proposal-worthy spots. The fofoti tree area is the most iconic — twisted, wind-sculpted trees framing the sunset behind you. For something more private, the southern stretch near Manchebo has fewer people. I scout the location the day before.
Step 2: Timing the Sunset
The ideal proposal moment is 15-20 minutes before the sun touches the horizon — golden light, colorful sky, still bright enough for sharp photos. Early sunset (Nov-Feb) around 6:00 PM. High sunset (Mar-Apr) around 6:15 PM. Late sunset (May-Aug) around 6:30 PM.
Step 3: The Hidden Photographer
I arrive 30 minutes early with a telephoto lens — close enough for crystal-clear shots, far enough to be invisible. We agree on a signal. I start shooting the moment you reach for the ring box.
After the proposal, I reveal myself. We then use the remaining time for engagement portraits while the joy is still fresh. These are always the best portraits — raw, real, radiantly happy.
Packages
Most proposals book the Signature Sunset 1-Hour ($180) — 30 minutes hidden coverage + 30 minutes engagement portraits. For editorial style, Studio Beach adds professional flash.
Pro Tips
Keep the ring in a pocket, not a bag. Tell your partner you want to “catch the sunset.” Breathe. I’ll capture every second.
